AYAB on my Brother 950

I have now successfully installed AYAB interface in my Brother 950 knitting machine.

When I bought an electronic knitting machine it was partly because of the possibility to install AYAB on these machines and thus being able to use a computer to design and use patterns when knitting. At first I had some problems with the AYAB interface not selecting the needles correctly, however they at Evil Mad Scientist very quickly and professionally solved that problem. Changing the interface is very simple, and very well explained on the Evil Mad Scientist webpage for hardware installation you only need to losen a few screws on top of the machine that hold the top cover in place.

The top cover is in three sections, and all three need to be loosened in order to remove the leftmost section, where the electronics are located.

Once that section comes off the cables that connect the circuit board inside the cover need to be disconnected and the circuit board removed. The smaller connectors all have locking clip "wings" on their edges so its fairly easy to squeeze the clips to disconnect them.

The majority of the connectors are on the right, and all that is needed is to identify the cable with matching labels and connect them to the AYAB interface, with the labeled side of the cable connector facing towards the label on the board, it is not difficult to identify which why these should be connected. As my Brother 950 electronics are in perfect order I have changed it back and forth from time to time, as I have not yet found out how to use some accessories e.g. the Garter Carriage with the AYAB interface.

Updated in June 2018, I recently received a comment on this post concerning that the Evil Mad Scientist has taken the AYAB interface out of production.

Design: Headband

This headband is made on my Brother KH950 with Yeoman yarns Tibet which is a 25 % Silk 50% Merino Wool and 25% Nylon. A lovely soft and silky feel 3 ply. I first made a few of these, with different motives from the "Stichworld pattern book I" and in both Yeoman yarns Tibet and King Cole 4 ply merino wool, while trying to figure out why my AYAB was not working correctly. The motives are pattern number 8, 44 and 47 from the "Stichworld pattern book I" and are in the photos given as 1 pixel per stitch, thus the pictures may look small on your screen.
