There is something so charming about baby clothes with lace pattern.
Lace is a style of knitting where holes in the fabric are used to give a visual aesthetic value. Famous examples of lace knitting include the wedding ring shawl of Shetland knitting, a shawl so fine that it could be drawn through a wedding ring. It is probably from these that knitting patterns for the shawls made with single ply wool that are well known in Iceland were copied. Lace seems to have found its way into baby clothing and swatches sometime around 1700 and many of the old world lace swatches are made with very fine yarn and the traditional knitting style of each area can be seen in the different techniques .
The pants are knitted using 4-Ply Merino Superwash Wool by King Cole, I buy mine from Uppingham Yarns I have been using this yarn for baby sweaters and pants, as well as headbands for adults and have been very pleased with the garments made from it.
The lace pattern used is one of the patterns from "Stichworld pattern book I". I have chosen pattern number 107 for this project. In the photos that are made to use with the AYAB interface these are given as 1 pixel per stitch, thus the pictures may look small on your screen.
