Heel

The heel is knitted by short rowing over 32 stitches and 18 rows until 15 stitches remain and then reversing the process until all stitches are in use again.

Short rows: Start with the carriage to the right. 32 stitches on the left are set to hold (needles in position E, and carriage holding cam lever on H). Then the first left stitch of the 32 stitches on the right hand side is set to hold. Knit one row, set the yarn under the stitch that was set to hold in the previous row. One stitch on the opposite side to the carriage is set to hold, knit one row. Repeat a total of 18 times, when finished there should be 15 stitches left in working position. Then increase again in the same manner, one stitch on the opposite side to the carriage is set to WP and the yarn set under the first holding stitch on the same side as the carriage until all heel stitches are in WP again. This way no gaps are formed when short rowing.

The heel on the second sock is knitted starting with the carriage on the left and 35 stitches on the right hand side set to hold.
